This is the advertisement at the beginning of Vegard Sæteren’s new novel Terrain. A novel about vulnerable people who have been promised that if they just comply, if they just come together and do what Oggy (the leader) says, they will, somewhere out there, find goodness, find community, find meaning and abundance. But who can really promise such a thing? And won’t we be there soon? Terrain follows a handful of somewhat tired, somewhat lonely people in a convoy into a desolate landscape. How do you think it will play out? Terrain is a short novel about what might be the biggest question of all: the meaning of existence in each and every one of us.
