When Edvard Munch was born, he was so small and weak that his family called for the priest. The boy would have to be baptised in a hurry, in case he wouldn´t survive. But the frail boy would grow up to be the greatest Norwegian artist through times.
Though getting there would not be easy. His mother died when he was only five years old, and Edvard was often sick during his years at school. Still, anyone could see that the boy was talented, and he quite early became a part of the rough artist community of Kristiania, and later Paris, Berlin and Copenhagen.
The pictures he painted are now world famous. But in his time the pictures would infuriate people. Some thought that he must be mad, displaying his feelings the way he did in his pictures. But Edvard would not let himself be stopped. And it would end up costing him more than anyone could imagine.
