Everyone feels fear occasionally. It may stem from a particular situation, or may take the form of a more generalised anxiety. Farewell to Fear is a book about hope. The hope that a better life is possible for everybody who may be experiencing worry, fear or anxiety. We meet Aslak Hartberg, best known as the rapper in Norwegian band, Klovner I kamp. When he was little, he wanted to be a stuntman and an explorer. Later, he was drawn to hip hop, graffiti, boxing, snowboarding and skating, and eventually he travelled all over the world as a musician.
Nonetheless he has a problem: he is scared of everything. His curiosity and joie de vivre are constantly battered by phobias and anxieties. The endless battle is starting to eat away at his strength. One day, exhausted and disillusioned, he meets the psychologist Aksel Inge Sinding, who works with exposure therapy. Together they set out on a journey in which Hartberg must face his worst nightmares. There are ups and downs and he often comes close to giving up. When he comes out on the other side, however, he feels like a new person. Gone are the phobias, gone are the worries and, best of all, gone is the fear of fear.
