Tiki wants to climb the tall tree. Tiki wants to pet dogs and jump in puddles and go on the swing at top speed. Don’t swing so high! dad yells. Don’t pet the dogs you don’t know! yells mum. Don’t pet dogs you know either because no dogs are safe. Don’t climb up the bookshelf! Don’t eat so much sugar! Don’t! Don’t! We just don’t want anything bad to happen to you! says mum and dad.

But it’s not that easy for Tiki when her parents constantly limit her, and she begins to shrink. She becomes so small that she can fit inside a snow globe. Tiki must use strong powers to become herself again, to dare exist in a world in between everything that is dangerous.

Don’t! is a thought-provoking and fun picture book from Gro Dahle and Svein Nyhus. A lovely story for all children who are itching to explore the world around them, and not least as a reminder for all parents to nag their children a little less.
